Looking for a high-protein, freezer-friendly meal that reheats beautifully for busy weeknights? These make-ahead bison burgers are your new go-to! Packed with flavor and just the right kick, they’re easy to prep in bulk and freeze for later. I love serving them on a Dave’s Killer hamburger bun (also straight from the freezer) with a side of prepared veggies or a crisp side salad.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground bison

  • 2 tsp sea salt

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 2 tbsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground bison with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and red pepper flakes. Mix until just combined—don’t overwork the meat.

  2. Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and form into burger patties about ¾-inch thick.

  3. Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook burgers for 4–5 minutes per side or until cooked through to your desired doneness.

  4. Let burgers cool completely. Then place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for 1 hour. Once firm, transfer to a freezer-safe container or zip-top bag. Separate layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

To Reheat

  • Microwave: Wrap burger in a damp paper towel and microwave for 1–2 minutes until heated through.

  • Oven/Toaster Oven: Preheat to 375°F and heat burger on a baking tray for 10–12 minutes or until warmed through.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve on a toasted Dave’s Killer hamburger bun (also freezer-friendly!)

  • Add avocado, tomato, red onion, or your favorite burger toppings

  • Pair with roasted veggies, raw crudités, or a side salad for a complete meal

These burgers are a lifesaver when you’re short on time but still want something nourishing and satisfying. Enjoy!
